A little bit of history:

Greece has a long and storied past with a rich and complex history. They were profoundly influential. Spanning thousands of years, from ancient civilizations to the modern-day country,

The ancient Greeks, who lived from around 800 BCE to 146 BCE, made significant contributions to Western civilization in areas such as philosophy, democracy, drama, science, and art. Many of the great works of Greek literature and philosophy, such as the epic poems of Homer and the philosophy of Aristotle, are still widely read and studied today.

The Greeks were also known for their impressive architectural achievements, including the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis in Athens. The Hellenistic period, which followed the classical age, saw Greek culture and ideas spread throughout the Mediterranean and beyond, laying the foundations for Western civilization.

Historically, Greece has been shaped by its interactions with various cultures and societies, including the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and others. Today, Greece is a modern European country that proudly celebrates its rich history and cultural heritage.

Greece’s Islands comprise of approximately 227 inhabited isles. However, only some of these islands are popular tourist destinations, while others are sparsely populated or still need to be discovered by visitors. Some well-known inhabited islands include Crete, Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Corfu. Each island has its unique character and charm, offering visitors a diverse range of experiences, from stunning landscapes and rich history to vibrant nightlife and beautiful beaches.

Greece’s Islands are composed of six main groups of islands, each consisting of several smaller islands. These groups are the following:

  1. The Ionian Islands: located off the west coast of Greece, this group includes popular tourist destinations such as Corfu, Zakynthos, and Kefalonia.
  2. The Aegean Islands: located in the Aegean Sea, this group of Greece’s islands includes popular tourist destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, and Rhodes.
  3. The Cyclades Islands: located in the Aegean Sea, includes popular tourist destinations such as Mykonos, Paros, and Naxos.
  4. The Sporades Islands: located in the Aegean Sea, this group includes the islands of Skopelos, Skiathos, and Alonissos.
  5. The Saronic Islands: located near the coast of the mainland, this group of Greece’s islands includes the isles of Aegina, Poros, and Hydra.
  6. The Dodecanese Islands: located in the southeastern Aegean Sea, this group includes the islands of Rhodes, Kos, and Patmos.

  11. Los: Known for its lively nightlife and beautiful beaches.
  12. Kefalonia: Known for its dramatic landscapes, turquoise waters, and historic sites.
  13. Chios: Known for its mastic villages, historic sites, and traditional architecture.
  14. Syros: Known for its neoclassical architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene.
  15. Milos: Known for its natural beauty, including its stunning beaches, volcanic landscapes, and crystal-clear waters.
