A little history:
The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam was originally built in 1632 as a theater, and was called the Schouwburg van Coster, one of the first theaters in Amsterdam. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1772 but rebuilt a few years later and continued to operate as a theater until 1968 when it was closed.
It wasn’t until 1998, when the building was purchased by a group of investors who decided to convert it into a hotel. Anouska Hempel, a well-known British interior designer, designed the hotel—Hempel’s design combined historical elements with modern design.
The hotel was opened in 1999, initially called the Blakes Amsterdam, the name was changed to The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam in 2010.
