The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam is a popular choice for travelers. This stunning five-star boutique hotel is located in the city’s heart, on the Keizersgracht canal, and housed in a beautifully restored 17th-century building, that was once the first theater in Amsterdam. It 107 rooms and suites, all individually designed and decorated.

Each carefully designed room melds historical features with contemporary flare– some with four-poster beds, others in a loft-style option, and suites with luxurious amenities such as marble bathrooms, plush bedding, and high-tech entertainment systems.

The Dylan is also known for its premeire service and its fine dining options– with two restaurants, Vinkeles and OCCO, both of which have been awarded Michelin stars. Vinkeles is a Michelin-starred restaurant that serves modern Dutch cuisine in an 18th-century bakery. OCCO is a brasserie serving classic French dishes in a more casual setting.

A little history:

The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam was originally built in 1632 as a theater, and was called the Schouwburg van Coster, one of the first theaters in Amsterdam. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1772 but rebuilt a few years later and continued to operate as a theater until 1968 when it was closed.

The Dylan Hotel AmsterdamIt wasn’t until 1998, when the building was purchased by a group of investors who decided to convert it into a hotel. Anouska Hempel, a well-known British interior designer, designed the hotel—Hempel’s design combined historical elements with modern design.

The hotel was opened in 1999, initially called the Blakes Amsterdam, the name was changed to The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam in 2010.

Her notable projects besides The Dylan Hotel Amsterdam, include the Blakes Hotel in London, which she co-owned, and the Hempel Hotel in London’s Bayswater area. Both establishments became renowned for their opulent and imaginative interiors.

Hempel’s design style is marked by a restrained color palette, luxurious textures, and carefully curated furnishings and accessories. She is known for using black and white as dominant colors, creating a striking visual contrast. Her designs often incorporate Asian and Middle Eastern influences, reflecting her extensive travels and diverse cultural experiences.
