Star Wars fans later popularized the phrase “May the Fourth Be With You” to celebrate the franchise and its iconic characters, such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader.

The first official Star Wars Day celebration occurred in 2011 at the Toronto Underground Cinema, where fans gathered for a movie marathon and costume contest.
