Hotel Review: El Mangroove Resort Autograph Collection
Located off the Gulf of Papagayo, El Mangrove is a sustainable boutique resort that melds Costa Rica’s natural beauty through wood and water elements, bamboo and stone into every aspect of its architecture. The resort sits perfectly poised on 17 lush acres, and garners 500 feet of beachfront on cocoa sands that meet a jade green colored bay.
What’s great about El Mangroove, is the 20-minute drive from the international airport in Liberia. This is the closest beachfront resort to an international airport in Costa Rica.
Opened in 2014. This is one of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
El Mangroove oozes luxe-hipness. This beachfront boutique beauty, nestled in the mangroves, offers up three restaurants, two bars with amazing cocktails, and a foodie’s paradise thanks to Chef Sebastián La Rocca, culinary director of the resort’s Makoko Restaurant. He is the former head chef at Barbecue in London, Jamie Oliver’s Michelin-starred restaurant. (Most recently, El Mangroove announced the appointment of Randy Siles as the new Executive Chef for the resort).
Contemporary styled rooms, also boast screened in living rooms. The spa is stellar, with outdoor cabanas, where guests can experience massages among nature’s sounds, such as tree monkey’s singing in peaceful choir, and chirps of native birds echoing in the silence of the mangroves. Truly Magical!
The outdoor center, on the beach, rents water sports equipment including, light-up paddle boards for the ultimate adventure at dusk. Don’t miss: yoga classes, kayaking, and a picnic lunch adventure on a deserted beach, arranged by the outdoor center staff. AND, that magnificent pool! Be sure to book ahead to grab one of the 5 luxury cabanas.
El Mangroove has been awarded numerous accolades– Condé Nast Johansens 2016 Awards for Excellence in the “Best Waterside Hotel” category, and in 2015 as “Best Newcomer,” as well as a 4-star rating by Forbes Travel Guide 2015 and that same year achieved the highest ranking in the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST).
