FIJI: Jess Berlin Sings Praises for Namale Resort
Namale Resort, on the island of Savusavu, is one of those spectacular properties in Fiji that exemplify not only luxury at it’s best, but also quality and substance that represents Fiji. No doubt that accolades from the media have brought this property into the forefront as one of the top global resorts- “All-time winner of the resorts and great hotels of the world” by Architectural Digest, “The #1 SPA in Fiji” by Luxury Spa Finder Magazine, and “The #1 ultimate honeymoon suite in Fiji, #5 in the world” by Modern Bride Magazine, as well as countless more awards worldwide.
Jess Berlin spent some time in Fiji, and shared her top picks about Namale.
1. The service
The service at Namale is unprecedented. “Whatever your heart desires” doesn’t even come close to describing the level of service. From the moment you arrive at Namale, you are treated like royalty. Without spoiling too much, the little touches are everywhere. Would you like a bottle of champagne while you lounge at the pool? “No problem.”
2. The accommodations
Book the honeymoon bure called Nanise (Nancy). The spacious bure is decorated beautifully, with a scenic entrance straight from a movie. It boasts an ideal spot, sitting perched atop boulders with an expansive view of the sea. Off the back porch is a bridge leading to a private plunge pool, the perfect place to unwind after a day of the beach or scuba diving. There are no clocks in the room, reminding you once again that you’re on Fiji time. While there is no air conditioning, the ocean breeze and fan help to keep the room cool at night. Romance, privacy, and the ultimate hideaway.
While many resorts say they are all-inclusive, Namale takes it to another level. Besides the spa, everything is included. Meals, drinks (wine, champagne, top shelf liquor), and ALL activities. Even each room’s mini-bar in is restocked daily with sodas, beer, wine and water (yes, it’s true they do drink Fiji water in Fiji!). Some nights, without having to request it, champagne would also appear next to a drawn tub when you would return from dinner.
Every morning the staff encourages you to plan a full day of activities. My favorite was an afternoon of fishing (with lunch and champagne on the boat), the Discover Scuba Diving course and lunch at the private waterfall.
5. The Spa
The spa at Namale is world renowned. Cited as the “#1 spa in Fiji”, it is 10,000 square feet of sheer bliss. Set atop volcanic cliffs, it offers one of the best views on the resort. The spa has 4 aromatherapy baths, hot tubs and a waterfall massage! Before any treatment, you receive a relaxing foot soak. Champagne while you spa? But, of course! I enjoyed the couple’s massage in a treatment room with ocean views.
6. The Kava Bowl
Not your typical gaming destination! The Kava Bowl is a playground for adults. It is an all in one entertainment center with every entertainment option possible – 2 bowling lanes, virtual golf, air hockey, comfy couches to watch movies and internet access. Though I didn’t spend much time in taking in all thee gaming options, it is a great place to meet for drinks after dinner and a place to hang out on a romantic” rainy day.
