This test is invaluable when starting a new health and fitness regime, as body fat results are tailored to the individual rather than merely compared to “averages.” The procedure takes minutes and requires adhesive sensor pads to be applied to the hand and foot while the battery-operated computer measures the various components. The 80-minute nutritional consultation covers all biomarkers and gives guests a comprehensive, proactive nutrition recommendation and is $150. The 15-minute BIA testing to determine only body fat is $50. 8. The class is included in the Spa’s inclusive fitness programming. 9. Water Walking Red Mountain Spa believes it is never too hot or too cold to walk. The property introduces Water Walking, which utilizes the resistance of water to tone the body and raise the heart rate, guests walk forward, backward and sideways, during the wet and wildly fun 45-minute Aqua class in Red Mountain’s seasonal pool. Classes for all levels are available. The class is included in the Spa’s inclusive fitness programming. 10. Tai Chi on the Rocks Tai Chi has been referred to as a moving meditation. Practiced among the red rock cliffs and petrified sand dunes of Snow Canyon State Park, Tai Chi allows guests to deepen their ability to relax, increase focus and strengthen concentration. Staged at sunset, the nurturing energy from the rocks radiates upward into the body refueling its natural healing capabilities. The southwest setting along with Native American music invites guests to practice the universal form and graceful movements of Tai Chi, while immersing in this mediation in motion designed to connect the mind, body and spirit. The class is included in the Spa’s inclusive fitness programming. Greek Island Voted Top Destination
Greek Island voted Numero Uno!LONDON (Reuters Life!) - The Greek island of Rhodes was voted on May 1 as the top European location in a survey of the world's 100 best travel destinations. Seven European cities were in the top 20, according to Internet travel advisory service TripAdvisor. Experts said despite the current economic crisis, rising fuel costs, environmental concerns and airport chaos, traveling was still as popular as ever -- particularly to Europe. In its inaugural travelers' choice survey, taking into account the opinion of the world's largest online travel community, the Greek island was voted the fifth most popular world destination. The Austrian capital Salzburg was the next most favorite European destination while the spa resort town of Bath was the highest-ranking British destination. Five UK locations made the top 100. New Zealand topped the international survey. Milford Sound, a fjord located in the southwest corner of the country's South Island, was voted the most popular worldwide destination with its beautiful mountains and scenery. The nearby adventure town Queenstown, famous for its extreme sports, was second-favorite. Italy, the survey found, was the most popular country with seven cities in the top 25 European destinations -- the southern city of Amalfi the highest ranked at 15th on the worldwide list. Other European locations to make the top 20 include Siena, in Italy (15), Dingle in Ireland's south-west (18) and the Belgium city of Bruges (20). "What the destinations have in common is a something special that makes them truly exceptional in the eyes of travelers around the world," TripAdvisor European communications manager, Ian Rumgay, told Reuters. "Despite dire predictions about economic downturns, rising fuel costs, environmental concerns and airport chaos, travelers continue to beat a path to destinations such as these that have that 'X factor'." The locations were determined by an analysis from the website that is visited by about 25 million users a month. It combined input from travelers' favorite places, popular hits from the website's six million registered users as well as analysis of forums and summaries from about 15 million reviews. WHAT IF YOUR AIRLINE GOES BUST?
Airline Closings- What you can do to protect yourselfEos, the all-premium airline that flew between the New York and London metro areas, folded its wings on Sunday, the last in a recent spate of airline closings that has included ATA, Aloha, Skybus, Oasis and MaxJet. So what does this portend for its fellow airlines in general, and your future travel plans in particular? Yes, oil prices are having a severe impact on all the airlines, and those without deep pockets may not survive. As Frontier, which filed for bankruptcy but is still operating, found out, the credit card companies are also getting squirrelly. Because an airline folding leaves the credit card companies with a lot of exposure, they require what is called “holdbacks” from the airlines, i.e. upfront money the airline escrows with the credit card company to mitigate against loss. Because Frontier’s financial picture looked wobbly, at least one credit card provider asked them to put more money “down,” and to make a long story short, they didn’t have the cash to do it. Are the bigger airlines a safer bet? Probably. However, as seen with the recent equipment-related delays, problems with a big airline can snowball. If you have a ticket on a smaller airline that goes under, it’s more likely that another airline will have the room and the graciousness to accommodate you, though you might have to use a different airport. But one of the advantages to the big airlines is that they are almost all publicly held companies, so you can read their financial statements (or read what the analysts are saying about them) and be less likely to be caught by surprise by sudden failure. Paying for your ticket by credit card is a must, since if you pay by cash or check, you’ll wind up getting pennies on the dollar after waiting in the bankruptcy-court queue. Travel insurance plans are also a good idea if they cover the cost of replacement transportation and any extra nights waiting for an available flight at a reasonable cost. Expect ticket prices to keep going up as low-cost carriers get knocked out of some markets; current price hikes don’t come close to covering the rising cost of fuel to the airlines. And one more piece of advice: Use your miles, and look into the rules of your “mileage bank.” In addition to more bankruptcies, mergers and consolidations are in the wind and all your miles may not survive intact. source: eflyer

AUSTIN, TX…Cited for its superior treatments, facilities and cuisine, Lake Austin Spa Resort has been named the #1 destination spa in North America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine in the April 2008 issue. Rising up from their ranking as #2 in last year’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards, the property makes its mark in the #1 position for the first time.
In order to sustain its premier position among North American spas, Lake Austin has completed a multi-million room refinement project with new aesthetic touches and modern high tech conveniences, setting the bar even higher among its competitors.
Likened to the “Academy Awards® of the travel industry” the Readers’ Choice Awards showcase the best spas in the country and around the world and highlights the opinions of their very sophisticated, discriminating travel-enthusiasts.
“Our magical combination of casually elegant guest rooms, world class spa treatments, invigorating activities, deliciously healthy cuisine and life enriching programs provide our guests with a destination spa experience that is all about them. Because we are small – just forty guest rooms in all – we are able to understand how to best provide experiences as individual as the guests themselves and the affluent consumer has clearly responded to this type of spa experience,” said Mike McAdams, co-owner of Lake Austin Spa Resort.
Over time, the results of the magazine’s readers’ poll have vividly shown an ascent to the top for this hill country resort. As one of the top five destination spas in both 2004 and 2005 to #2 in 2007, Lake Austin Spa Resort slowly began its movement to the top after receiving national acclaim from the addition of the LakeHouse Spa in 2004 – bringing 25,000 more square feet of comfort and luxury to the shores of Lake Austin.
Taking a closer look at this year’s results, Lake Austin Spa Resort scored high marks for both treatments and programs/facilities (score of 92.9), as well as staff service (92.6). In addition, the property was recognized for its superiority in cuisine and setting. The popular destination spa is known for creating a casual, upscale feeling in a highly personalized, almost residential spa setting while offering enriching programs such as Mother/Daughter Weeks, the Culinary Experience™, a Gathering of Wise Women, and the upcoming, innovative and new Style Weeks.

AMERICAN AIRLINES FARE INCREASES
American Airlines has announced it will raise U.S. fares by as much as $30 on round-trip tickets to help offset rising fuel costs, the company said. The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline made the announcement the same day it canceled nearly 600 more flights amid concerns its MD-80 jetliners might not be in compliance with federal safety rules. On Saturday, 200 more flights were canceled, The Los Angeles Times reported. They've had so much bad press over the last 72 hours that this is just a pimple, Tom Parsons, chief executive of Bestfares.com, said of the fare increase. They can deal with this. The flight disruptions are expected to cost the airline more than $30 million. In related news, discount air carrier Frontier Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after its credit card processor began withholding a larger portion of receipts from ticket sales. Denver-based Frontier is the fourth U.S. airline to file for bankruptcy protection in the last month. There's a lot of tension at the airports these days, said Dean Headley, a professor at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., and co-author of the annual Airline Quality Rating. You sense something between panic, terror and frustration. Source: United Press International

HAWAII VOLCANO ERUPTION UPDATE
Volcano, Hawai'i's Big Island (March 28, 2008) - The exciting volcanic activity continues to evolve in Halema'uma'u crater at the summit of Kîlauea volcano on Hawai'i Island. Meanwhile, miles away, molten lava is flowing into the sea, providing stunning panoramas for lucky visitors. At the summit, the dramatic plume of gas and steam that has been gushing from a vent in the crater wall since March 11 has turned from fluffy white to dusky brown. That's because the mile-high plume now contains ash. Equally as dramatic, but visible only to intrepid geologists who venture to the crater rim just above the vent (off-limits to the public), were deposits of "Pele's hair" (thin strands of solidified lava), and "Pele's tears" (droplets of lava rock) above the crater rim. These artifacts of the eruption indicate that molten lava has ejected from the vent. However, no flowing lava has been seen on the crater floor - yet. This activity follows on the heels of the small March 19 gas explosion in the crater wall that threw rock over the top of the rim onto a parking lot, which was already closed because it was downwind of the sulfuric plume. This marked the first explosive eruption at Kîlauea's summit since 1924, and the first eruption in the crater since 1982. The elevated sulfur dioxide levels near the plume aren't dangerous to anyone upwind, but exposure to high levels of SO2 can be of concern, especially to anyone with respiratory conditions. As long as the customary tradewinds keep blowing, park visitors are safe. There's also good news for the Kona and Kohala coasts. Though the air may look hazy in West Hawai'i, there is very little SO2 left in it by then.
"Visitors should know that if they follow precautions, come prepared, and listen to officials, the volcanic activity on Hawai'i Island is not only fascinating to witness, it's also safe," said George Applegate, Executive Director of the Big Island Visitors Bureau. "A contingent of scientists, local and federal officials are keeping close tabs on the situation, and keeping the public well informed," he said.
So Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is still very much open for business. Though the downwind stretch of Crater Rim Drive is closed off for now from just past Kîlauea Military Camp, as is Jaggar Museum and its overlook, visitors can get stunning views of the plume from the trail along Volcano House hotel.
Meanwhile, down on the coastal part of the Puna District, flows of molten lava from Kîlauea are still oozing overland and into the ocean. The county has set up a viewing area at the end of Highway 130. It's currently open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the last car permitted into the parking area at 8 p.m. At press time, able-bodied visitors can expect a walk of 40 minutes, or possibly more, from their car to the viewing site. The route crosses some pavement, and meanders across a plain of smooth yet uneven hardened pâhoehoe lava. It all depends on where the flows are going that day. Sturdy walking shoes are a must, as are long pants, sunscreen, a flashlight and at least two quarts of water per person. It's a bit of an effort, but if the lava is flowing, the sight will be worth every step. The Big Island Visitors Bureau has launched a new user-friendly volcano eruption update page on its www.bigisland.org website, www.bigisland.org/volcanoupdate. Visitors are able to download a safe lava-viewing PDF from the site. For the latest eruption updates and Hawai'i volcanoes information, visit the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory site, http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov For additional eruption updates, call Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park at (808) 985-6000 or visit www.nps.gov/havo/planyourvisit/lava2.htm. For additional information on conditions at the Kalapana lava view area, call the Hawai'i County Civil Defense lava hotline at (808) 961-8093, or visit www.lavainfo.us

COUPLES DRAWN TO AUSPICIOUS 08/08/08 WEDDING DATE-- CARIBBEAN RESORT GROUP EXTENDS THE LUCK OF THE 8’s THROUGHOUT 2008 WITH COMPLIMENTARY WEDDING PLAN -- Elite Island Resorts Personal Destination Wedding Planners Help Couples Tie the Knot with Ease DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (MARCH 27, 2008) – Elite Island Resorts, the award-winning Caribbean resort company, has recently noticed a significant increase in inquiries for 08/08/08 destination weddings. Maybe it’s because in many cultures, the number eight has been associated with paradise and new beginnings. Buddhists follow an eightfold path to the enlightenment; in Christian symbolism, the number eight represents rebirth; and in Islam, there are eight gates to paradise. Whatever the reason, couples planning a Caribbean destination wedding will find 2008 a lucky year for another reason as well—those who book an all-inclusive premium luxury category honeymoon stay of at least seven or ten nights (depending on the resort) at Elite Island Resorts’ Caribbean properties also can enjoy a complimentary, destination wedding package regularly priced at $899. “Many couples are requesting the date 08/08/08 for their weddings. But with complimentary weddings available all year, any date in 2008 is a happy one. Planning a Caribbean destination wedding with Elite Island Resorts ensures a personalized wedding that is easy to arrange and a great value too. Plus, with our new complimentary personal wedding website, an engaged couple can invite wedding guests to book their travel plans at the click of a mouse,” said Janine Hills, director of wedding planning, Elite Island Resorts.
