Can you get cheap flights home for Thanksgiving? Yes!
Ah, those woes of holiday travel. Getting back to loved ones, and sharing down home memories to last a lifetime.
Here at Adventure Girl, we try and find ways around the stresses of holiday travel. Sometimes, (actually hardly ever!) we get the luxury of leaving well before the rise in holiday traveling rates, other times we skip out on a wing and a prayer.
We’re also believers of flying on the actual holiday. That’s right, most travelers have reached their destination, airports are more empty than not, and flights tend to be less expensive on the day of, versus the days leading up to the holiday.
The other trick is to remain flexible, be open to connections if possible. The other trick is to wait long enough for airlines to release mileage seats and seats that sit unsold.
IBT shares that currently, TravelZoo is offering deals for as low as $32 each way on domestic flights through Jan. 4. The best deals are for flights on Thanksgiving Day, returning the following Tuesday or Wednesday.
Sample fares include:
Long Beach to Las Vegas – $32
Boston to Newark – $39
Phoenix to Los Angeles – $59
New York to Washington, D.C. – $64
Chicago to San Francisco – $109
TravelZoo also has big last minute deals on luxury hotels in places like Austin, Boston, Atlanta, and Denver.
CheapOAir is also offering similar last-minute Thanksgiving deals for round trip travel on or after Nov. 23 through Nov. 31.
Sample fares include:
Las Vegas to Phoenix – $166
Orlando to Washington – $200
Phoenix to Denver – $241
Los Angeles to New York – $368
For these deals, you must book before Nov. 24, and if you use the code “THANKS$10” you can get up to $10 off.
Daily car rental rates will average $37 over Thanksgiving week. That’s an 11 percent decrease from one year ago. Companies like Alamo are offering steep discounts on last-minute car rentals, so if the savings are right, you could fly in to an alternative airport and rent a car to continue to your destination.
If you don’t find what you need, here are some tips:
-Shop alternative airports.
-Sign up for deal alerts from airline and travel websites.
-Connect via Facebook and Twitter for “Just for Friends” deals.
-Check reduced airfare, usually released by airlines each Tuesday.Source: IBTimes
