IBERIA CELEBRATES FIRST YEAR IN LOS ANGELES WITH A SPECIAL OFFER TO FLY TO SPAIN STARTING FROM $791

Nearly 70,000 people used the direct Los Angeles-Madrid route in the first year

Madrid, March 28, 2012/One year ago today an Iberia aircraft took off from Los Angeles bound for Madrid launching a route which has since been used by nearly 77,000 passengers, and shown an average cabin occupancy rate of 80%, unusually high for a new route.

To celebrate this first year in Los Angeles, Iberia has launched a special offer to fly from Los Angeles to Madrid starting from $791*, round trip, final price, for tickets purchased until April 10th for trips beginning April 3rd and May 21st, and between August 24th and October 31st.

Iberia, the first Spanish airline to operate on this route, flies between to two cities on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, with convenient connections at Iberia’s T4 hub in Madrid. Passengers can continue from/to another 31 Spanish cities, 42 in other European countries, and 13 in Africa and the Middle East. In fact, in the first year about half of all passengers flew to/from cities other than Madrid, especially in Italy and France.

Passengers fly in one of Iberia’s 254-seat Airbus A-340/300s, with 36 business class seats featuring 87 inches between rows and seats that unfold into horizontal beds. Since the end of last year business travelers have also enjoyed Iberia’s new dining service based on Mediterranean cuisine and designed by some of Spain’s most renowned chefs –with two Michelin stars each.

For Ángel Valdemoros, Iberia’s International Sales Manager, the new route “has fully met our expectations and brought the U.S. West Coast much closer to Spain –today we are the only company connecting Spain and California directly. Many Californians have already taken advantage of this connection in order to visit our country”.

In addition, Iberia’s code-sharing agreements with American Airlines facilitates travel on the route by passengers bound from/to other cities such as San Francisco, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Jose, Fresno, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Honolulu.

The United States is Iberia’s largest overseas market; the Spanish airline flies to New York, Chicago, Miami and Boston, as well as to Los Angeles. This year Iberia will supply a total of 1.23 million seats between Spain and the U.S., a 9% increase on 2011, particularly significant in a period marked by sluggish demand and high fuel costs.

* Offers are subject to inventory availability of the specific class of service at the time when the reservation and purchase are made on www.iberia.com/us. The prices indicated may vary depending on your travel plan (origin, destination, departure dates and arrival, etc.). Taxes and carrier-imposed fees per ticket are included in the fare, but can have little modifications. Customers purchasing Economy Class tickets may check one bag at no charge and a second bag for $60 for US departures, and 60€ for EU departures. Tickets cost $20 more if purchased by telephone and $25 more if purchased at an airport ticket office.

About Iberia: Iberia is Spain’s largest air transportation group and Europe’s fourth-largest. Iberia is market leader on routes between Europe and Latin America, with the largest offer of destinations and frequencies. Together with its franchise partner Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum, it operates about 1,000 flights with a fleet of 160 aircraft to 107 destinations in 45 countries. The Iberia Group carried more than 24 million passengers last year. Iberia is a member of the oneworld alliance that offers more than 8,400 daily flights to about 680 destinations in 134 countries.
SANTA TERESA, PLAYA SAMARA, TAMARINDO, PUERTO VIEJO, GULF OF PAPAGAYO HONORED IN THE 2012 TRIPADVISOR TRAVELERS’ CHOICE BEACH DESTINATION AWARDS

San Jose, COSTA RICA (March 20, 2012) – The Costa Rica Tourism Board is proud to announce that numerous Costa Rican beaches were recognized in the 2012 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice® Beach Destinations awards. Santa Teresa was chosen as the first overall winner, while Playa Samara, Tamarindo, Puerto Viejo and Gulf of Papagayo ranked second, third, sixth and tenth, respectively.

“It’s a tremendous honor for not one, not two, but five Costa Rican destinations to be named to the 2012 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Beach Destinations awards. We are extremely proud to have the top beach destination in Central America and will continue to develop and nurture our tourism offerings in this segment,” commented Ireth Rodriguez, deputy manager and director of marketing for the Costa Rica Tourism Board.

The annual TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Beach Destinations awards honor the world’s best beach destinations. One hundred eighty-one top beach locations were named around the world, covering 21 regions including lists for Africa, Asia, Australia, Brazil, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Middle East, South America, South Pacific, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, U.K. and the U.S.

Award winners were determined based on the most highly rated beach destinations by travelers in TripAdvisor reviews. Unlike any other honors, TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice winners are based on millions of valuable reviews and opinions from travelers around the world.

“The winning beaches have joined an elite list of destinations that have been singled out for recognition from the votes of our millions of travelers for the natural beauty and leisure services that they provide,” said Christine Petersen, president, TripAdvisor for Business. All those involved in the local tourism industry for the winning beach destinations should feel very proud.”

Award-Winning Airline Brings a Fresh Alternative to Portland: Modern, Low-Fare Flights Now on Sale from PDX to LAX and SFO Virgin America Celebrates Growth with Network Fare Sale and an Invitation for Portlanders to Help Name its 50th Plane

San Francisco – March 13, 2012 – Virgin America, the airline that is reinventing domestic travel, announces it will bring its low-fare, award-winning service to Portland International Airport (PDX) as of June 5, 2012, with tickets on sale today for two daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and one daily nonstop flight from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Known for outstanding guest service, custom-designed cabins with three classes of service, and touch-screen in-flight entertainment at every seat, Virgin America has swept the major reader-based travel awards since the airline launched in 2007. At a time when most U.S. carriers have been cutting capacity, Virgin America is expanding to its 18th destination and bringing much-needed nonstop competition from California’s largest airports to PDX. When entering new markets that offer little low-fare competition, the airline has frequently seen fares drop by up to 30 percent.

“Our airline launched in 2007 because we believed travelers deserved better choices in air travel. We are excited to start new service to PDX and we hope our unique blend of low fares and inventive service will be a fresh alternative for Portland travelers,” said Virgin America President and CEO David Cush. “Although there are strong business and leisure travel ties between California and Portland, the West Coast to PDX market generally has higher fares than similar flights to Seattle and the reason is competition. We are thrilled to offer Portland travelers a different choice – in an industry often characterized by monotony.”

In honor of its newest city, the airline is launching a systemwide fare sale, with PDX-LAX and PDX-SFO fares from $99* (taxes and fees included and restrictions applying). Tickets are available for purchase now at www.virginamerica.com and at 1.877.FLY.VIRGIN.** Today, Virgin America is also asking its social media followers to submit “Portland-themed” plane names to grace its 50th aircraft, which will launch into the airline’s rapidly growing fleet in April. The top five names will be voted on and selected by the carrier’s teammates. The final winner will see their name at 35,000 feet on the side of a new Airbus A320 aircraft and score two roundtrip flights on the new Portland route.*** For more details, visit:http://vgn.am/vxpdx

“We’re pleased to welcome Virgin America to Portland International Airport,” said Bill Wyatt, Port of Portland executive director. “Virgin America is known for its award-winning service and for doing things differently, and will bring PDX travelers new options for two of our most popular routes—Los Angeles and San Francisco.”

Virgin America has taken top honors as “Best U.S. Airline” in both Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards and Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for the past four consecutive years. The airline was named “Most Eco-Friendly Airline” by Smarter Travel for its investments and its new fleet – which is up to 25 percent more fuel efficient than the average fleet flying in the U.S. Virgin America’s new aircraft offer custom-designed mood-lit cabins, fleetwide WiFi, power outlets at every seat and the most advanced in-flight entertainment in the skies. Every Virgin America guest enjoys their own nine-inch seatback touch-screen with:

6.5 feet long bed guarantees maximum sleeping comfort / Customers involved in development of the seat / 3-billion-euro investment in the new inflight product

East Meadow, NY, March 8, 2012 - The new Lufthansa Business Class seat, which was revealed to the public today, boasts a full-flat, horizontal sleeping surface measuring 6.5 feet in length. The seat, which at the push of a button, converts to a comfortable bed, offers exceptional comfort as a flat bed or as an upright or reclining seat, with its intuitive adjustments, additional storage space and enhanced entertainment system. In a few weeks’ time, when the new Lufthansa Jumbo — the Boeing 747-8 — enters scheduled service, passengers will have their first opportunity to enjoy the features of Lufthansa’s new Business Class cabin.

“We integrated our customers very closely into the development of our new Business Class so we would be able to offer a product that was totally in line with their wishes and requirements,” said Jens Bischof, member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board. Back in 2007, Lufthansa conducted a survey of more than 500 frequent flyers in order to find out their preferences and their requirements of a Business Class seat. Once the survey results were reviewed, the airline moved on to the next phase and developed various concepts with the aid of well-known ergonomics experts, designers and seat manufacturers. In 2010, an eight-week trial was conducted on the Frankfurt-New York-Frankfurt route. In all, 1,349 passengers and a specially recruited test crew evaluated the prototype on flights LH 400 and LH 401 in terms of comfort, ease of use and technical stability.

The outcome is a seat that meets the most discerning demands with regards to seating and sleeping comfort. “The horizontal sleeping surface is a crucial factor for our passengers. This request was the focus for all our other considerations. In addition, we have improved many details which, taken together, create maximum comfort,” Jens Bischof explained. These include ergonomically improved cushioning to ensure a high degree of comfort in a sitting or horizontal position, as well as adjustable armrests that provide more space in the shoulder area when lying down. Each sitting or horizontal position can be adjusted individually and continuously without the need for the passenger to stand up. Additionally, each passenger has more surfaces to place their personal items and additional storage compartments on the actual seat.

Another novel feature is the innovative seating arrangement in the form of a “V”. Two neighboring seats are angled towards one another along a central axis. This solution enabled Lufthansa to fulfill one of the main wishes expressed by customers – to sit or lie facing the direction of travel. This seating arrangement also enabled Lufthansa to virtually double the distance between two neighboring seats at shoulder level, which in the future will give Business Class passengers greater privacy.

The new Business Class seat is a major component of Lufthansa’s largest investment to date in its inflight product. Over the next few years, some three billion euros will be channeled into product improvements for passengers. The new seat rounds off the travel experience for Business Class passengers perfectly – from dedicated check-in counters and additional free baggage allowances to fast-track security lanes, access to Lufthansa lounges worldwide and preferential boarding through to exclusive inflight menus and the excellent service provided by the cabin crew. “All of that shows that we are offering our Business Class customers an exceptional experience at every step of the travel chain,” said Jens Bischof. Retrofitting Lufthansa’s entire long-haul fleet of more than 100 aircraft is expected to take four years.

RICHMOND, Va., Nov 16, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Travel spending will be up as more Americans plan trips over the river and through the woods this holiday season, according to the third annual Access America Vacation Confidence Index released today by Mondial Assistance USA. Nearly six in ten Americans (57 percent) are confident they will take a holiday trip this year, up from 50 percent in 2010. The increase in spending spurred by more travelers will translate to a nearly $6 billion bump for the travel industry as holiday travel spending is expected to reach $65.2 billion, a 10 percent increase from last year.

“This year’s survey illustrates some good news for the travel industry,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Mondial Assistance. “More Americans are traveling this year compared to 2010, and that translates into billions of dollars in extra revenue for travel suppliers. And the good news for Americans is that more people expect to be able to travel this holiday season, reducing the Vacation Deficit by more than 10%.”

Overall Travel Spending is Up this Holiday

Travelers intend to spend $980 on average, down slightly from $1,040 budgeted on average last year. But with significantly more adults expecting to take a trip, overall spend will increase to $65.2 billion.

Car Travel Still Most Popular, But More Plan to Fly

– Air Travel Wins Big: While car travel is still the top mode of transportation (56 percent), more travelers intend to fly to their destinations this year than they have in the past. A third of travelers (34 percent) plan to fly this year, up from 26 percent last year, and 27 percent in 2009.

– Keeping it in the Family: Holiday and family go hand-in hand, so it is not surprising that two thirds of parents with children under 18 reported that a holiday vacation is important.

– Booking Sooner Rather than Later: Nearly half (49 percent) of Americans plan on booking their travel at least two months in advance (compared to 42 percent in 2010) and nearly a quarter intend to book their trip between one and two months out. — Mars vs. Venus Exception: Women may not find this surprising, but men are more likely to wait until the last minute to book holiday travel, with a third (32 percent) saying that they plan to book within a month of their departure (compared to 21 percent of women).

Vacation Deficit Index

This year the vacation deficit index, defined as those who believe it is important to take an annual holiday trip but are not confident they will take one, is down to one in five Americans (21 percent) from nearly one in three (32 percent) last year.

“What we’re seeing is that travel continues to be an important investment for Americans, even in unsettled economic times,” said Durazo. “The combination of increased travel, recovering travel costs and the uncertainty in the economy make travel insurance this year’s ‘must have’ stocking stuffer for holiday travelers.”

For more information or to book Access America travel insurance for holiday travel, visit http://accessamerica.com .

The Access America Vacation Confidence Index is based on a telephone survey conducted by Ipsos November 2-7, 2011 of a nationally representative sample of 1,000 randomly-selected adults aged 18 and over residing in the U.S. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate within ±3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire population of adults in the U.S. been polled. The margin of error will be larger within regions and for other sub-groupings of the survey population. These data were weighted to ensure the sample’s regional and age/gender composition reflects that of the actual U.S. population according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Located on the much talked about Saadiyat Island, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas will open its doors today. Less than a mile off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island is poised to become the art and culture hub of the Middle East, and Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi will be a tranquil escape for jetsetters and business travelers alike. Designed as an urban resort, the hotel offers all of the amenities and seclusion of an island oasis with the exciting attractions of the capital city only moments away.

Location

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has said that it expects to receive 2.7 million visitors by 2012, with international key attractions such as the Corniche, Emirates Heritage Village, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, and the Yas Marina. With plans underway to open a Louvre Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Zayed National Museum, the island will become a hotspot for the culturally curious. Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas is surrounded by over five miles of pristine beaches and is neighbor to the world-famous, Gary Player-designed Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.

Rooms, Suites, and Villas

Designed by New York-based architects Perkins Eastman and Singapore-based designers Wilson Associates, the hotel incorporates energy-efficient design techniques that meet LEED’s silver standards while also complementing the island’s natural beauty. To bring the outdoors in, each of the spacious 306 rooms, suites, and villas has a separate balcony or terrace. All Beach View Suites, Garden View Suites, and Villas have large private terraces with plunge pools, outdoor rain showers, and sun beds. In addition to the private pools, guests will love the hotel’s four large swimming pools and beachfront location.

Dining Options

The hotel’s restaurants offer an authentic taste of local cuisine to be enjoyed indoors or al fresco. The Café is the stylish all-day-dining restaurant serving Arabic specialties complemented by Western comfort food, while The Park Bar & Grill specializes in Western and Asian cuisine served from a theatrical show kitchen. Serving homemade Mediterranean dishes, the Beach House’s rooftop location is the perfect spot to enjoy the amazing views of the stunning turquoise waters that surround Abu Dhabi.

Atarmia Spa

Using treatment ingredients steeped in Arabian history as well as Kerstin Florian and Natura Bisse products, Atarmia Spa takes guests on a sensory journey reminiscent of ancient Arabia’s aromatic history. Opulence of Atarmia, one of the spa’s signature treatments, features lavish ingredients such as gemstones, diamond dust, honey, and hot olive oil. This treatment includes luxurious therapies for the face, hair, and body, including a hot stone massage and the choice of either an Opulence Caviar or Diamond Experience facial.

Spread out over two floors, the spa features nine spacious treatment rooms, outdoor private terraces, fitness facilities, a stretching studio, sun lounges, a sauna, steam room, whirlpool room, tennis court, and an ice fountain.

RECEIVES WORLD TRAVEL AWARD FOR SUSTAINABILITY

“Australasia’s Leading Green Hotel” Award is the Resort’s Second Win in the Category

VANUA LEVU, Fiji – Sept. 29, 2011 – Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort announces the World Travel Awards has named it “Australasia’s Leading Green Hotel” in 2011. In the selection process, 213,000 travel industry professionals in more than 160 countries worldwide voted for the most excellent travel providers. The World Travel Awards was launched in 1993 to recognize excellence in all segments of the global travel and tourism industry, and the voting process is monitored and independently audited.

The resort also previously received “Australasia’s Leading Green Hotel” in 2008, the first year the category was included, and has been awarded a total of seven honors by the World Travel Awards, including “Fiji’s Leading Resort” in 2009, 2008 and 2005. In 2007 it was recognized as “Fiji’s Leading Boutique Resort” and the resort’s Villa was “Fiji’s Leading Suite.”

“We thank our colleagues in the travel industry for their continued recognition of our commitment to sustainable and socially responsible travel,” said General Manager Greg Taylor. “We believe providing an unforgettable and authentic Fiji experience for guests includes supporting environmentally friendly practices and community interaction.”

Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is an all-inclusive luxury resort overlooking Savusavu Bay. Surrounded by a pristine marine and island environment, this intimate, internationally acclaimed resort combines culture, environment, diving and water activities, wellbeing, relaxation and exceptional cuisine. Couples, families and water sports enthusiasts appreciate the resort’s varied offerings as well as its underlying social and environmental responsibility. Jean-Michel Cousteau, an impassioned diplomat for the environment, is also the founder of the nonprofit organization Ocean Futures Society, which explores the global ocean and educates people throughout the world to act responsibly for its protection.

The resort’s 25 one- and two-bedroom thatched-roof bures are scattered among the palm trees of this former 17-acre coconut plantation. Designed using environmentally friendly materials, each bure features a high temple ceiling, native timber floors and a private deck. The decorations exude tropical elegance.

The resort encourages guests to learn about and value the local Fijian traditions and island ecosystems by offering an exceptional range of complimentary resort activities. Cultural hosts introduce guests to the Fijian way of life through village trips and kava ceremonies. It is also the only resort in Fiji with a full-time on-site marine biologist—a native Fijian who leads guests on snorkeling trips, reef walks, and mangrove reforestation tours, and gives multimedia presentations on the local marine life, among other activities.

Water sports options for guests include diving with one of the world’s top dive operations, established by Jean-Michel Cousteau and dedicated to preserving the delicate reefs and their inhabitants. The resort also offers snorkeling, glass-bottom boat trips, informative tide pool walks and a giant clam restoration project.

For a touch of nurture and wellbeing, guests can indulge in a Fijian spa treatment in a beachfront spa bure. The ocean breeze and sound of the lapping waves contribute to total relaxation.

The rich and diverse cuisine of Fiji has evolved through the combined influences of geography, the indigenous Fijian and Indian population, and the bounty of the islands. Menus feature fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, grown in the resort’s extensive organic garden, as well as the freshest local seafood and fish.
